    • There are conflicting sources that have Margaret being the first (and only) child of Osborn Spring, Sr. and Elizabeth Morris, and other being the daughter of Edward Spring and Elizabeth Pile.

My theory is that both are true in some way. Margaret was born on March 20, 1726/7. Elizabeth Morris died in 1727. I believe Elizabeth died from complications of childbirth. Margaret was likely given to Osborn's brother Edward to take care of the newborn, especially since Elizabeth Pile was likely nursing a new child of their own.

Shortly after thereafter Osborn remarried Rachel Belt and started a new family almost immediately. It is not unreasonable to speculate that Elizabeth Pile bonded with the motherless baby and the new Osborn/Rachel family preferred to start with a clean slate.

Ironically, Margaret would go on to marry her step-mother Rachel's younger brother (by 16 years).
